Sally Ward

–

Waterbury, Connecticut

Sally Arthena Echols Ward, of River Street in Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday morning at Complete Care at Glendale. She was the beloved wife of Levy Ward.
Sally was born on March 9, 1939, in Tuskegee, Alabama, a daughter of the late Robert and Rebecca (Hayden) Seatts. At an early age, her family relocated to Waterbury, where she went on to graduate from Merriman Grammar School and Wilby High School. Following graduation, she attended Tuskegee Institute before returning to Waterbury, where she met the love of her life, Levy Ward. The two were married in September of 1959.
Sally dedicated many years of service to St. Mary's Hospital's outreach program, where she helped young mothers in the community navigate the early stages of parenting. She was also a longtime and faithful member of Grace Baptist Church.
Sally cherished the time spent with her family, especially on annual cruise trips to the Caribbean. She also enjoyed visiting Connecticut casinos with loved ones (going up the road she would say) and baking treats to share with others. Her pound cakes were legendary—so rich and buttery that one church member asked for the recipe to feature on his restaurant menu.
Sally leaves to cherish her memory her loving spouse, Levy Ward; two daughters, Sharon Ward of Waterbury and Letisia Ward of Southington, and one son, Michael Ward and his wife Erika Ward of Alaska; Grandchildren: LeToya, Scekoyia, Michael Jr., Vivien, Mya, and Ida, and Great-grandchildren: Deaundre and Samiyah. She is also survived by three sisters, Donna Mitchell, Pamela Seatts, and Robin Adams, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear lifelong friends. In addition to her parents, Sally was predeceased by her sister, Gwendolyn E. Kelly.
As per Sally’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. The Family invites you to privately celebrate Sally’s memory in your own way.
