Mary Lou Aston

–

Plymouth, Connecticut

Waterbury – Mary Lou (Bernthal) Aston, age 94, of Waterbury was called home to Our Lord on Monday October 28, 2024. She married Delbert R. Aston in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1950. Delbert passed away in 1994.

Mary Lou was born March 26, 1930 in Stuttgart, Arkansas daughter of the late Reverend Herbert T. Bernthal and Lorena (Westphal) Bernthal. She worked as the manager of the footwear line in Uniroyal, Naugatuck, CT for nearly 20 years. When Uniroyal relocated, her son Gary and daughter Cindy enticed her to move to San Diego where she resided. She was hired as a Quality Control Manager for Sandicast Corp. for eight years. When she returned to Ct., she was hired as Property Manager for Centre Bank and worked there until she retired. She also worked part time at Bradlees and Shaker’s Ford.

Mary Lou was a communicant of Cheshire Lutheran Church. As a young Pastor’s daughter, she played the organ and sang in the choir. Her beautiful voice sent many compliments her way from other parishioners. She also played basketball in the Walther League. She enjoyed an active social life and was blessed with many dear lifelong friends. She loved reading, playing cards, games, bingo and traveling weekend getaways and monthly bus trips to bingo at the casino. She was a huge fan of her sports, football, baseball and basketball. Her favorite was the UCONN Girls Basketball team.

She was a very hard working, loving Mother with a strong constitution and set a wonderful example for her children. She was always gracious with a warm greeting, a vibrant personality, a beautiful smile and quick wit and loved her jokes. She left many indelible memories to all that knew her. She was also a wonderful baker and was highly skilled at desserts. She will be greatly missed.

Mary Lou loved her family, relatives and friends and is survived by her son Gary Aston of Coventry, RI, daughter Cynthia Baker and her husband Tim of Prospect, CT., daughter Lisa Kilian and significant other Joe of Waterbury, CT., three grandchildren, Steven Aston, Sarah Abrahamson, and Stacy Schindler and their families all of West Greenwich, RI and nine beautiful great grandchildren all of Rhode Island. She is also survived by her significant other Mario Cantamessa. She was predeceased by her brothers Herbert and Robert, her sister Dorothy and Mary Lou’s son Larry R. Aston.

We will all miss her wit, laughter at a good joke, and genuine loving spirit. She was a blessing to all of us and will be truly missed.
