Douglas J. “Dougie Fresh” Harris, 56, of Naugatuck, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. Born on September 6, 1969, Doug was the son of the late Earle and Norma (Adams) Harris. He was the beloved husband of 30 years to Mary (Bradford) Harris. Their love story began at Heritage Village, where they met while working security—it was love at first sight.
Doug was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and worked for 15 years as an Automotive Technician and Mechanic at J & M Automotive in Naugatuck. He truly loved his job, known for his dedication, loyalty, and masterful skill at tinkering with anything mechanical. Doug also proudly participated in the American Legion Post 195 in Oakville and was a member of the American Legion Riders.
He was happiest riding his Harley Davidson, cheering on NASCAR races, and spending time in his backyard—always set up for a good time with family and friends. He had a deep passion for music, especially rock & roll and Iron Maiden, and enjoyed playing his guitar, both acoustic and electric. A true car enthusiast, Doug also had a lifelong love for muscle cars.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children, Dustyn, Timothy and his wife Jennifer, Kyle, and Rikki; and his cherished grandchildren, Mia, Colin, Willow, and Aurora. He also leaves behind his siblings Greg (Robyn), Tim (Marcia), and Cassie (John), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. Doug’s loyal companions, his dogs Roxane, Layla, and Special - his “ladies”—will forever hold a place in his family’s hearts. He was predeceased by his son Edward and his brother “Ricky” Richard Harris. Doug’s family wishes to express there gratitude to his nurses
Deborah Konopka and Chris Shore who were dedicated to treating him for his Gauchers Disease.
Doug's family will receive family and friends on Friday October 17, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Community Funeral Home 72 Waterbury Road, Next to the Post Office, in Prospect.
